When it comes to Jeep brand vehicles, do they not make them like they used to, or is newer better?

The Fast Lane Car aims to find out, testing a 20-year old Wrangler against its brand new counterpart.

One reviewer predicts, right off the bat, that the newer model will fare better.

Why?

It's got newer coil springs, while the old is still using leaf springs. It has a disconnecting front sway bar, and a computer able to provide automatic traction control, and optimization for various terrains.

He was right about the 2015 Wrangler's superior performance, but he laments that this new SUV's performance is too good. It's fool proof, making the off-road experience less fun.

Now, in an old Wrangler without the fancy computer assistance and automatic settings, and unbeatable suspension, you can still tackle off-road challenges, but you have to think your way through them. It makes off-roading more of a strategic puzzle, instead of just lumbering over obstacles with the latest technology.
