When looking at particular model names, they always seem so fitting to a car's style. We certainly can't picture calling the Ford Mustang by an alternative name. This leaves us to wonder just how a vehicle comes to get its name during the production process. Today on our blog we thought we'd bring all of you in the Petersburg, PA area a brief overview.

It all begins when the communications, design and marketing teams have a brainstorming session about a model. By considering the appearance of the vehicle and the feelings and images it calls to mind, a list of about 150 possible names are then generated. It all comes down to imagery and how a viewer is connected to the car.

Next the top names are chosen from the list and reviewed by the legal team. They check for trademark issues and analyze how the name works internationally. Often times certain names are varied for different markets in order to maintain their meaning. For example, the Ford Fusion and Escape are known in Europe as the Mondeo and Kuga. It all comes to how well the name can be pronounced in each language.

As far as the final decision goes, this up to the brand's CEO. The product must dictate the name, so it's definitely a hard choice to make. In the end that names that are chosen perfectly capture the style of the model in one single word.

If you'd like to explore how well a name fits a model, then the LCM Used Car Center is the perfect place to do so. We'd be happy to show you what our used car lineup has to offer, and even schedule you for a test drive with the vehicle that catches your eye!
