If you have a hard time trying to remember the last time you got your brakes inspected, then it may be time to get them checked out. A rule of thumb is to get your brakes checked every 12,000 miles or if it's gotten to be over a year; whichever comes first. Or, if you have grinding or squealing when you apply the brake or if the length to stop safely becomes longer. Your vehicle may also pull to the side when you apply the brakes or the brake pedal may feel spongy or may even respond slowly. All signs that you should get your brakes serviced sooner than later. But if you get your brakes inspected regularly, you can usually avoid all of those symptoms, or at least you can nip them in the bud before they get too out of hand. You may not give your brakes a second thought, but they are still important.
