Keeping your infant safe is a number one concern when driving with baby on board. But, if the car seat isn't properly installed you're putting your baby's safety in jeopardy. Below we give you some tips on how to correctly install a car seat using lower anchors.

  • The first step is to read your car seat's instruction manual and your vehicle's owner's manual. You need to know where to locate the lower anchors and how to use them.
  • Place the car seat in the back seat, this is the safest place, and make sure the car seat is rear facing. This provides extra protection for your baby's head, neck, and spine.
  • Locate the anchors and connect the lower anchor attachments on the car seat base. Make sure the straps aren't twisted.
  • Firmly press down on the car seat base to tighten. The base should not move more than 1 inch front-to-back or side-to-side.
  • Make sure the car seat is at the correct recline angle. The car seat needs to be slightly reclined to keep the airway open.
