We're all concerned for the environment these days, and we all try to do our part. Nothing says "green" quite like an electric car made out of a tree.

Environmentalism, however, isn't what the creators of the "Cedar Rocket" set out to promote.

It all started, "not as a joke," Bryan Reid Sr. said, "but as something very light. You put a log on a couple of axles and 'ha ha.'" Reid stars in the reality show Timber Kings, which documents his business crafting astonishing log cabin homes.

After garnering publicity for his unique vehicle, which puts Mazda RX-8 parts into a solid western red cedar log, Reid plans to sell it at auction and donate all profits to American war veterans.

What can you do to benefit the environment as you drive, short of bidding on an electric log? It is well known that regular service and repair can maintain your car's lower emissions, as well as keep it on the road and out of the junkyard longer. You can also "reuse and recycle" by shopping used cars at LCM Used Car Center.
