Eric the Car Guy has been using his skills as a mechanic to provide car repair advice to YouTube for over half a decade. So, what does a professional mechanic say you should be doing to protect your car, and yourself, this winter?

1. Have the right tires. Your tires are what gives you traction, so it is vital to make sure you have at least 2/32 inch tread depth. Having all-season tires, snow tires, or studded tires will improve your traction as well.

2. Get your repairs and maintenance done before snow starts falling. Especially if you are a DIY-er, you don't want to have to make repairs in the snow. Even if you're coming into our service center for your inspections and oil changes, you'll want to have your vehicle looked over to prevent a breakdown when snow and cold weather puts added stress on your vehicle.

3. Wash and wax to prevent rusting. Your car is about to be exposed to months of road salt and frozen-on grime. Get a wax now to prevent corrosion, and take your vehicle to the car wash throughout the winter to prevent salt build up.

4. Remember to pack for the weather. Include a shovel for digging out, jumper cables, and warm clothes/blankets.
