The year 2015 is nearly behind us-- the year that Doc Brown and Marty McFly visited in Back to the Future Part II. They had flying cars in that version of 2015.

So, when are we going to see the real thing?

At the rate technology was developing in the first half of the 20th century, it seemed like a sure-thing that personal flying vehicles would be available by the second half.

However, just because something is projected, doesn't mean it's going to happen.

One of the biggest problems is power. To get a car to hover in the air like the flying cars in The Jetsons, you need a tremendous amount of power-- more than could fit into a standard-sized car. And doing it quietly, so you don't wake the neighborhood starting up your car? Impossible!

Safety is another big factor. Around 30,000 people die in the US each year in car accidents-- all of which occurred while travelling in two dimensions, along a flat roadway.

Imagine cars zooming in three dimensions. Imagine a stall-out sending you plummeting a hundred feet back to earth.

That sounds like a major "nope" to us.

So, while we may never see hovercraft at LCM Used Car Center, we can still offer you some of the most advanced technology available in a modern automobile. Check out our pre-owned inventory, and you'll find some of the latest model-years at affordable prices.
