There are countless reasons why it's important to keep your eyes on the road, but many people often overlook why you also need to yield to animals that might dart out in front of your vehicle. Just to emphasize this point, we have two stories to share with you involving wildlife encounters. We hope this encourages you to be just a little more attentive, even while traveling in less populated areas.
The first story occurred in Pennsylvania when a deer leaped in front of a bus and crashed through its window. It then frantically tried to find an exit off of the bus. Luckily after about 30 seconds of struggling, it finally noticed the opened bus door and escaped without being harmed. The surveillance camera on the bus captured the entire situation, and since then the video has gone viral on social media sites.
On a happier note, during a high-speed chase in Portland an officer actually stops his car to allow a family of ducks to safely cross the road. He even gets out of his vehicle and walks to the road's edge to ensure they are out of harm's way. While he may have lost the traffic violator who was doing 52 mph in a 35 mph zone, he at least was able to protect some wildlife and show the importance of stopping to let them cross the road.
By reading stories like these, we hope you will become a little extra cautious on the road. While some wildlife run-ins might be unavoidable, there are many that can be prevented. Next time you see an animal crossing, slow down and continue with caution until it has made its way to safety.
