Most of the customers we chat with at our LCM Used Car Center will admit that they don't always know enough about the parts that make their vehicle run. This is understandable considering the complexity of some of the used car parts we see at our service center on a daily basis. To help with this, we've decided to take the opportunity to provide you with some knowledge about one particular part worth knowing about: the spark plug.

The spark plug is an electrical piece that plugs into the engine in a way that allows it to ignite the fuel and therefore start the car. To put it simply, it connects to the ignition coil and creates the voltage that creates combustion. Without the proper function of this one particular part, your car wouldn't start. That being said, we'd say it's a pretty significant component.

It's important to know there are a few steps that lead up to the spark plug's ultimate function. First, fuel must travel from the gas tank to the fuel injector. The cold air intake on the engine is simultaneously filling the cylinders with oxygen. Air mixes with the fuel, making it highly combustible. It is then sent through more cylinders where the spark plug creates the spark for ignition. This entire process happens over a thousand times a minute, in order to keep your vehicle's engine humming.

Although this is quite the process, it's an important one to be aware of when it comes to being familiar with your vehicle. For more useful car tips like this one, be sure to continue following our LCM blog so we can keep you informed.
